Rotherham Pheonix V's Guisborough
Guisborough travelled away to Rotherham Phoenix in the Yorkshire shield cup, both clubs doing remarkable well in their own leagues. Guis had a hand full of first teamers unavailable so travelled with a very young side. Josh Cameron made his first team debut & Danny Grainger played at second row for the second week running. Rotherham made this fixure very awkward for Guis, not letting them park at the ground and the changing room as far away from the pitch as possible. This did have an effect on Guis, as they came out all guns blazing and for the first 10 minutes Guis's forwards dominated the play and were rewarded when Sam Watson powered over for the first try. The second came through a good backs move Joe Bossomworth picked a great line and touched down in the corner. The third was a forwards try from a great rolling maul, Rotherham illegally collapsed 2 yards short, and the ever young Roly Dixon touched down. Half time 15-0.
Second half Rotherham seemed to grow in confidence and threw everything at Guis who needed to dig deep and defend for long periods. Rotherham were rewarded after 20 minutes with their first converted try, this gave them the confidence to attack wider but Guis defence held strong untill 5 minutes when they managed to break Guis defence for their second converted try. With time running out and the weather conditions deteriorating Guis managed to hold on for a well fought victory.
Final score15-14
