24th October 2009 Guisborough V Hartlepool Athletic
Guisborough travelled to Hartlepool Athletic today and ran out comfortable winners 69-3. It was the home side that started brightly, they used a rush defence and spoilt a lot of ball. Athletic got on the score sheet first when Guis defence were caught offside and Athletic converted a penalty in front of the posts. Guis took some time to adjust to the kind of play Athletic forced on them. They could defend well, didn't mind keeping it tight and the number 10 exploited the space behind with some good kick and chases. The surface was very slippy today and some poor handling meant that some moves prematurely broke down. Guis finally got onto the score sheet through Matty Flint as he powered his way over the line with two Athletic players on his back. The next soon followed, from a lineout the ball quickly went through the backs hands which left Josh Brown one on one with the winger and he stepped inside to touch down. Captain Dev scored as some good interplay between the forwards started and Buzzy scored when Chis Rye playing on the wing broke the first line on defence and off-loaded to Buzzy. Paul Towers scored from a penalty move and Buzzy got his second of the day. HT 38-3
Guisborough then played into a slight head wind and tried to keep ball in hand. Athletic's defence had been breached too many times and James Clarke scored a hatrick of tries, the first through an audacious dummy that sent the Athletic defence the wrong way, the second after Buzzy showed some football skills Ronaldo would be proud off and the third through a determined crash ball. Tom Rose and Towers both managed further tries which started deep in our half, Clarkie converted 7 of the 11. Well done to young Tom Crown who made his debut today.
